Austin Corbett says he’s getting 1st team reps at guard as well as 2nd team center

The battle to replace Kevin Zeitler at right guard remains an open competition. The presumptive successor was Austin Corbett, but Kyle Kalis has taken the vast majority of first-team reps during the OTA sessions open to the media.

That trend continued on Thursday. Kalis, a third-year player from Michigan who has played sparingly with the Browns last year and the Colts in 2017, took all the first-team reps between center J.C. Tretter and right tackle Chris Hubbard. But Corbett said after practice he is indeed getting some work in Zeitler’s old spot.

“Yeah, I’ve taken plenty of reps with the ones at right guard, but I’ve also taken plenty with the twos at center,” Corbett said via Daryl Ruiter from 92.3 The Fan. They need to know who the one right guard is gonna be and they need to know who the backup center’s gonna be. That’s the nature of the offensive line process.”

Expect this battle to linger into training camp and perhaps even the preseason.
