Austin Butler talks about his no-brow look for Dune: Part Two

Dune: Part Two

Today, we delve into the world of film as Austin Butler opens up about his experience rocking the 'no-brow look' on the set of Dune: Part Two. The 32-year-old actor, who portrays the treacherous Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in the highly anticipated sequel, recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! alongside his co-stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh.

During the show, Kimmel couldn't resist asking Butler about his character's distinctive appearance. 'Austin, did you miss your eyebrows making this movie?,' Kimmel inquired. Butler, with a hint of amusement, responded, 'It was so liberating not having eyebrows. You don't realize how much they weigh you down. I was just streamlined.'

Kimmel then probed further, asking if Butler had shaved his eyebrows. The actor shared an interesting anecdote about his commitment to the role. 'I was going to a job right after and with this director named Jeff Nichols,' he explained. 'And Jeff said, 'They can afford to make you a bald cap, but we can't really make you hair. So can you just get a bald cap?' So that's what I did.'

Clearly, the transformation was intricate and required the expertise of a talented hair and makeup team. Butler revealed that it took roughly three hours each day to get into the bald cap, making sure his eyebrows were intact for his next project. In total, the process lasted around five hours. Impressive dedication, indeed.

Kimmel, ever the comedian, offered a humorous alternative. 'Wow! I would have just glued on a couple of eyebrows. One big Eugene Levy-style eyebrow, like Bird from Sesame Street,' he joked. To which Butler playfully responded, 'That's exactly it.'

In another interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Butler disclosed his inspiration for his character. He drew upon animalistic qualities, particularly those of a snake and a shark, in order to shape his performance. He described his on-screen persona as 'ugly and bold,' contributing to the intrigue and complexity of Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.

Dune: Part Two picks up where the initial film left off, continuing the adventure based on Frank Herbert's iconic science fiction novel. The official synopsis of the movie reveals that it explores the mythical journey of Paul Atreides, played by Chalamet, as he joins forces with Chani, portrayed by Zendaya. Together with the Fremen, they embark on a vengeful quest against those responsible for the demise of Paul's family. As the fate of the universe hangs in the balance, Paul faces a defining choice between his love and the destiny he envisions.

Dune: Part Two boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Rebecca Ferguson and Josh Brolin, and is scheduled for release on March 1, 2024. Butler's commitment to his character's appearance is just one example of the dedication and artistry that goes into bringing these epic stories to life on the silver screen. So mark your calendars, film enthusiasts, and get ready to be transported once again to the expansive and immersive world of Dune.
