Stability at center was a high priority for the Los Angeles Rams this offseason, but they’ll be forced to make a change at the position after losing Austin Blythe in free agency.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Blythe has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Blythe started all 16 games at center for the Rams last season after previously playing guard. He wasn’t necessarily a dominant force in the middle of the line, but he held up fairly well as a run blocker.
Where he experienced some struggles was in pass protection, allowing four sacks in 2020. With Matthew Stafford coming aboard, the Rams will have a new center snapping him the ball next season, whether it’s Brian Allen, a rookie draft pick or another veteran.
The Rams will keep their offensive line mostly intact with Andrew Whitworth, Austin Corbett, David Edwards and Rob Havenstein back, but there is now a hole at center that will need to be filled.
