Trade Minister Dan Tehan says Australia has asked the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to establish a dispute settlement panel to adjudicate anti-dumping duties imposed on Australian wine by China.
"Australia supports the rules-based trading system and this is the next stage of the WTO dispute resolution process following consultation between Australia and China," Mr Tehan said in a statement on Thursday night.
"Australia remains ready to resolve this matter directly through discussions with China," he said.
"We will continue to stand up for the rights of Australian exporters."
Beijing last year slapped tariffs of around 200 per cent on all Australian winemakers, leading to a dive in earnings from mainland China.
