Aussie rock fans gear up for U2 Conference ahead of Joshua Tree tour

Australian fans of Irish rock legends U2 are gearing up for a massive conference to mark the band's upcoming Joshua Tree tour.

The event which is being held Down Under and will be attended by U2 fans and researchers alike.

A similar conference was held in the band's native Dublin last year with two other events being held in 2009 and 2013 in the US.

Unfortunately for punters Bono , The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen are not expected to attend.

But Aussie filmmaker Richard Lowenstein, a personal friend of Bono, will be making an special guest appearance.

Attendees will also be treated to screenings of Lowenstein's little known documentary, U2 Lovetown, as well as his doc Mystify about INXS singer Michael Hutchence, which features an interview with the U2 frontman.

And what's sure to be one of the main attractions will be the presentation of nearly five years of international research documenting hundreds of U2 fan tattoos.

The Irish group celebrated the 30th anniversary of their seminal 1987 album The Joshua Tree with a massive tour in 2017.

U2 are now set to embark on an extended leg of the tour with a string of lives dates across New Zealand and Australia.

They will kick things off in New Zealand on November 8 before they head to Australia for shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Perth.

The U2 Conference: Australia edition will take place at Studios 301 in Sydney on November 21.
