Aussie men serve up hat-trick of wins

Australian men has chalked up a trio of singles victories at the ATP 250 hardcourt event in Almaty.

Aleksandar Vukic beat Germany's Marko Topo 6-4 3-6 6-1 on Tuesday and was followed on to Centre Court in Kazakhstan by another Aussie in Rinky Hijikata.

Hijikata had been beaten by France's Ugo Blanchet in qualifying but was drafted into the main draw as a lucky loser after Nicolas Jarry withdrew.

Although he failed to serve out the first set and squandered a 3-0 lead in the third, Hijikata beat Kazakh player Timofey Skatov 7-6 (7-3) 2-6 6-3 and will face Wimbledon quarter-finalist Flavio Cobolli next.

In an all-Australian battle on Court 1, Tristan Schoolkate fired down 18 aces against Adam Walton, but still ended up on the wrong end of a 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (3-7) 6-2 scoreline in favour of the Queenslander.

Walton dropped serve only once and rattled down 10 aces of his own. The reward for the world No.76 is a meeting with Daniil Medvedev, the No.2 seed, on Thursday.

Walton was soon back on the same court, partnering James Duckworth in the doubles. The Aussie duo saw off Kazakh pair of Amir Omarkhanov and Beibit Zhukayev in a Championship tiebreaker.

Duckworth faces the No.7 seed, Canada's Gabriel Diallo, in singles on Wednesday.
