April 20--Aurora University has named a new vice president for academic affairs.
Frank M. Buscher is taking over the post after seven years as vice president of academics and student life at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, according to the university.
Buscher, who is trained as a historian, has also worked as a teacher, researcher and scholar, according to the university. He has published several works about war crimes, and worked as a Christian Brothers vice president from 2008 to 2015.
Buscher received a doctorate in modern European history and a master's degree in history from Marquette University, according to Aurora University.
"Aurora University has experienced impressive growth in recent years, and is clearly on the right trajectory," Buscher said in a statement. "I look forward to working with President (Rebecca) Sherrick and the campus community to identify new promising programs and to strengthen existing ones even further. I also relish the opportunity to become a member of a community of scholars that has experienced significant growth in recent years."
Buscher comes to Aurora University as the school's enrollment rises and the university expands, according to Aurora University officials. The school is planning to build an athletic complex in Montgomery set to include locker rooms and training facilities, baseball and softball stadiums, a soccer stadium and a multipurpose field.
In a statement, university officials said Buscher hopes to build on the momentum by bringing a strong entrepreneurial spirit to his new post and said he will continue the university's tradition of being responsive to students' academic and career needs.
"Dr. Buscher's record of success is truly impressive," Sherrick said in a statement. "As his accomplishments at Christian Brothers University show, he is committed to student learning and retention, creating new and innovative academic programming and working collaboratively with both faculty and administration. His unique set of skills and experience will be of great value to the university as we continue to fulfill our vision of being an inclusive community dedicated to the transformative power of learning."
