Aurora police investigate shooting that killed man, injured another

Dec. 07--A man died and another man was injured late Saturday night in a shooting on the West Side of west suburban Aurora.

Police responded about 11:35 p.m. to a call of shots fired on the 200 block of West Park Avenue and discovered a man lying on the sidewalk. Daniel W. Spencer, 46, of the 300 block of Plum Street, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including one to his head, said police.

Spencer was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove after initially being taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora. He was later pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m. at Good Samaritan, said police.

About midnight Sunday, police discovered that another man, age 29, had been dropped off at Mercy Medical Center with a gunshot wound. The man told officers he was walking in the area of West Park and Lake Street when he was shot by someone riding in a dark-colored SUV, said police.

The man ran to the home of a friend who drove him to the hospital. The man suffered a wound to his shoulder, and was treated and released, said police.

Police believe Spencer and the second victim were wounded in the same shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact the Aurora Police Investigators at 630-256-5500.
