Police are investigating reports of a person with a gun Wednesday in west suburban Aurora.

Someone called 911 at 9:36 a.m. to report a possible person with a weapon in the 200 block of Prairie Street in Aurora, according to a statement from Aurora police.

The person left the area by the time officers arrived, police said. Investigators spoke to witnesses and searched the area with police dogs, but have not yet found the person in question.

No lockdown was ordered at the Aurora University campus, which is about a mile from where the incident was reported, police said.

The university posted alerts to its Twitter account about an off campus “police emergency,” but issued an update about noon stating that the emergency had ended.

Authorities temporarily halted trains on the nearby BNSF railroad tracks and asked area businesses to lock their doors and have staff stay indoors until investigators cleared the area, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

AU Alert: The police emergency near Aurora main campus has ended. All streets are now open. ALL CLEAR.
