Aurora native, U.S. soldier killed by roadside bomb in Afghanistan

Miguel Villalon | City of Aurora

A United States Army soldier from Aurora was killed Saturday in an attack while serving in Afghanistan.

Miguel Villalon, 21, was in a vehicle that was struck by an improvised explosive device in the Kandahar province that killed him and another service member, according to Clayton Muhammad, a spokesman for the city of Aurora.

Villalon was a graduate of East Aurora High School, Muhammad said.

“Our prayers and condolences are with the Villalon family during this tragic time,” Aurora Mayor Richard C. Irvin wrote in a statement. “The City of Lights shines much dimmer because of this loss. We’ll stand with his family and provide support. Godspeed, young soldier.”
