Aurora man sentenced to 8 years in prison for gun offense

An Aurora man is headed back to prison for possessing a gun he was not legally allowed to possess because of prior gun convictions.

Judge Clint Hull sentenced Marcus T. Walker, 32, to eight years in prison on Thursday, according to the Kane County state’s attorney’s office. A jury previously convicted Walker of being an armed habitual criminal.

On Oct. 5, 2019, Walker possessed a gun while in Aurora, prosecutors said. He admitted to police during an interview that he had purchased the gun despite knowing he was prohibited from possessing one, prosecutors said.

Walker was convicted in 2009 in Kendall County of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and in 2012 he was convicted of the same offense in Cook County, prosecutors said. He served prison time for each conviction.

He must serve at least 85% of his sentence and will receive credit for the 1,059 days he spent in custody at the Kane County Jail.
