Aurora man going to prison for sexually assaulting child

March 28--A 25-year-old Aurora man is going to prison for sexually assaulting a young child he knew.

Martin A. Munoz-Perez, of the 1100 block of Bangs Street, agreed to a sentence of 12 years in prison when he pleaded guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony.

Evidence presented by prosecutors held that between October 2012 ad November 2013, Munoz sexually assaulted the victim, who was younger than 12 at the time and who he personally knew, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.

Kane County Associate Judge Linda Abrahamson accepted Munoz-Perez's plea. The Kane County Child Advocacy Center investigated the case.

Beyond his prison term, Munoz-Perez must register for life as a sex offender, in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

Munoz-Perez has to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence, in accordance with Illinois law. He was given credit for 576 days already served in the Kane County Jail.

During that year and a half, Munoz-Perez was charged with participating in a jail fight with more than 30 other inmates.

The Kane County State's Attorney's Office charged Munoz-Perez and 14 other inmates with aggravated battery charges for a Sept. 27 incident official reports say involved 33 out of 62 inmates in the cell block at that time. Four inmates were charged with resisting a correctional officer in connection with the fight.

Munoz-Perez did not have any other previous charges in Kane or Kendall counties, records show.
