Officers responded shortly after midnight Jan. 1 to the 1600 block of Fredericksburg Lane for a call of a man shot in the abdomen while asleep in his home, police said. The man told police he saw a bullet hole in the wall, and he was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

Investigators discovered the shots were fired from the 2300 block of Grand Pointe Trail, less than half a mile away, and found more than 30 shell casings outside a home, police said. During a search of the home, they found a handgun in a car in the driveway.

The handgun belonged to Reyes, who told officers he fired multiple rounds at midnight, police said.
