Aurora man charged with trying to meet child for sex

Matthew Gruzlewski, 47, was arrested June 22, 2019 after trying to meet a child for sex in DeKalb.

An Aurora man was arrested Friday after trying to meet a child for sex in west suburban DeKalb, authorities say.

Matthew Gruzlewski, 47, was charged with indecent solicitation of a child, traveling to meet a child and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the DeKalb County sheriff’s office.

Detectives began investigating Gruzlewski after receiving reports that a man named “Matt” had offered sex and drugs to a child in DeKalb County over the phone, sheriff’s police said.

On Friday, a detective posing as a child contacted Gruzlewski over that phone, and Gruzlewski allegedly offered “uppers,” or stimulant drugs, asked for nude photographs and provided nude photographs to the “child,” police said.

Gruzlewski arranged a meeting in the 200 block of Port Royal Circle in DeKalb, “for the purpose of committing aggravated criminal sexual abuse,” police said.

When he arrived, he was arrested and taken to DeKalb County Jail, where he was held Saturday pending a bond hearing.
