Lucky stargazers were treated to a rare display of the Northern Lights last as the Aurora Borealis lit up the North East's skies on Friday night.
From Scotland to as far south as York, the Northern Lights were could be seen across many parts of the UK as higher than normal levels of geomagnetic activity were recorded.
An Amber alert was issued by Aurora Watch UK, prompting keen stargazers to take to the skies for a fleeting glimpse of the elusive light display.

Wayne Eastlake was lucky enough to spot a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis from the bandstand in Blyth.
