Aurier out, Foyth in: How Mauricio Pochettino should line Spurs up to face Liverpool at Anfield

Tottenham face a tough test this weekend as they return to Premier League action against leaders Liverpool at Anfield.

Spurs will go into the game buoyed by a 5-0 win in midweek in the Champions League against Red Star Belgrade, after a difficult few weeks for Mauricio Pochettino's men.

The Lilywhites have only won three times so far this season in the Premier League, and have not won a league game away from home since January, when they beat Fulham, who were later relegated.

As such, it is a tough task for Pochettino's side to go to the home of the leaders, with Liverpool currently sitting six points clear at the summit.

But how should Spurs approach the game and who should be in the starting line-up.

Two of our team at football.london have stated how they would line up the Spurs team, below.

I would keep pretty much the same team that beat Red Star. The players will have confidence and momentum and there's little need to interupt that.

It's also been enough time since Tuesday night for them to be recovered and ready to play.

The one change I might make is bringing in Juan Foyth for Serge Aurier. Against Liverpool, I'd want full-backs who are less adventurous and won't leave space in behind, letting Lamela and Son doing the attacking out wide at the other end.

I'd keep the balance of the Sanchez and Vertonghen partnership over the currently poor Belgian link-up or the unbalanced Alderweireld and Sanchez one.

Winks stays on the bench purely because he's had a below par couple of matches and he and Ndombele, who was excellent in midweek, might be too vulnerable a pairing to take on Liverpool.

(4-2-3-1 which can become a 4-3-3) : Gazzaniga; Foyth, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies; Ndombele, Sissoko; Lamela, Alli, Son; Kane.

After a first win in four matches - and a convincing one at that - there is no need for wholesale changes.

Spurs kept a clean sheet for the first time since September, albeit against a Red Star Belgrade team which does not pose the same threat as Liverpool.

But there is one change I would make for this game, to try and nullify the Liverpool front three.

For me, Juan Foyth is more disciplined defensively, so I would go with the Argentine at right-back instead of Serge Aurier.

It seems odd not putting Toby Alderweireld in the centre of defence, but he has not been at his best in recent weeks, and Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen kept a clean sheet playing alongside each other in midweek.

Ben Davies performed well at left-back in midweek too and should start ahead of Danny Rose, who was poor against Watford.

In midfield, Tanguy Ndombele and Moussa Sissoko would provide more steel in the middle of the park, meaning Harry Winks may have to settle for a place on the bench.

Erik Lamela has played his way into the starting XI with his performance in midweek, and there is little reason to change what worked so well against Red Star going forward, meaning Christian Eriksen, Giovani Lo Celso and Lucas Moura are likely to be on the bench again.

(4-2-3-1) : Gazzaniga, Foyth, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies; Ndombele, Sissoko; Lamela, Alli, Son; Kane.
