Aurelio Buta 'agrees' Celtic transfer as Antwerp right-back set for £3m Parkhead switch

Celtic are reportedly on the verge of signing Royal Antwerp right-back Aurelio Buta in a £3m transfer.

Walfoot journalist Florian Holsbeek expects a deal to be completed in the coming hours as Ange Postecoglou nears a solution to one of his key defensive issues.

Anthony Ralston will likely start Wednesday's Champions League qualifier with Midtjylland despite being a peripheral figure for much of his Parkhead career.

Buta joined Antwerp initially on loan from Benfica back in 2017 before making the move a permanent one in 2018.

He has become an ever-present in recent seasons and played against Rangers in last season's last 32 Europa League clash with Steven Gerrard's side.

The imminent arrival of Buta follows on from the signings of Kyogo Furuhashi, Carl Starfelt and Liel Abada as Postecoglou puts his own stamp on his squad.

Celtic have been linked with a clutch of right-backs including Sheffield United's George Baldock and Derby County's Nathan Byrne.

The Parkhead side loaned Jonjoe Kenny but have been looking for a long-term solution since Jeremie Frimpong joined Leverkusen in an £11m deal.
