Aurelien Tchouameni's former agent discusses Monaco star's future amid Manchester United links

One of the hottest prospects in world football is likely to be on the move this summer, with many Manchester United fans hoping the club make a move.

Defensive midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has burst onto the scene over the last 18 months, winning plaudits and admirers across the globe as one of the brightest young talents in his position.

The Frenchman has been in demand for some time first impressing Bordeaux before signing for Monaco in 2020.

A move to Inter Milan almost materialised before the 21-year-old was tentatively linked with a move to United during the summer - although United sources denied any interest - and his former agent has spoken on the possibility of a move next season.

Having starred in midfield alongside Paul Pogba for France, a number of United fans will hope to see the club target him once the transfer window opens in 2022.

Speaking to Get Italian Football News, Tchouameni's former agent Gregoire Akcelrod said: "Inter had shown a lot of interest like a few other European clubs, who also wanted to move for him.

“But Aurelien wanted to go step by step – first play for Bordeaux’s first team as he came from their academy. It was a good choice to move to Monaco and after Monaco, it will be a big chance for him to go to a bigger club in Italy or England.”

The midfielder has become a regular for the Ligue 1 club, and has captained them in Europe.

In all competitions, he has played 15 times this season and Akcelrod believes that Champions League football will be crucial to his future.

When speaking on a potential move to United, Akcelrod added: “I don’t know what will happen this summer. It depends on whether Monaco play the Champions League – in the best European competition. I think his goal will be to play in the Champions League with Monaco or maybe another club."

Tchouameni partnered Pogba in the French midfield on Sunday against Spain with the two providing an effective platform for their side’s attackers to express themselves with pinpoint passing and shielding of the defence.

The 21-year-old’s Monaco teammate Cesc Fabregas described Tchouameni as “the complete, modern midfielder” with his exact role not suiting traditional stereotypes.

France Under-21 coach Sylvain Ripoll worked closely alongside the midfielder in his development and he told a recent interview with L'Equipe that his attacking game has developed significantly.

Ripoll explained: "Defensively, he's capable of running for 90 minutes at very high intensity. He always puts his opponents under pressure. He's very good at reading the intentions of his opponents. He can play in a variety of ways but is monstrous when he has the game in front of him."
