AURANGABAD: As summer is approaching, the Satara-Deolai locations and other tanker-dependent areas from Aurangabad have gradually started feeling water scarcity, prompting the affected residents to press for speedy completion of the ongoing water supply project.
While the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is currently providing 89 tankers in these areas, there is a rise in number of private tankers as the bore-wells at many localities have gone dry.
Neeta Kulkarni, a resident of Deolai area, said summer poses tough water situation in her area. “The groundwater level is not good in our area and borewells go dry few months after the rainy season. While we buy water for drinking, we have to spend extra money towards tankers for getting water for other needs,” she said.
Besides Satara-Deolai, Vijay Nagar, Sandesh Nagar, New Gajanan Nagar, Bharat Nagar, Gurudatt Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Balkrishna Nagar, Garkheda gao, Vishranti Nagar, some areas of Jai Bhavani Nagar, Uttara Nagari, Hanuman Nagar, Raj Nagar, Mukund Nagar, Hussain colony and some area of Nyay Nagar are also dependant on water tankers.
Kiran Dhande, in-charge of city water supply, said the number of tankers would be increased depending on the scale of water scarcity in affected areas during the summer. “The civic body supplies water through tankers in drums set up outside houses in identified localities where tap water is still unavailable. We are hopeful that water woes in these areas would come to an end soon once the municipal limits get new water pipeline,” he said.
A civic official said many tanker-dependant areas have witnessed laying down of internal pipeline as a part of the new water supply project.
