Aurangabad: Chota Pandharpur’s Muslim community not to sacrifice animals on Eid

AURANGABAD: Leading by example, Muslims from Aurangabad’s Pandharpur, better known as Chota Pandharpur, have unanimously decided to abstain from performing animal sacrifice rituals on the occasion of Eid ul Adha, which coincides with Ashadhi Ekadashi on Sunday.

Chota Pandharpur, located on the outskirts of Aurangabad, has a Vitthal Rukmini temple and is thronged by hundreds of thousands of devotees for paying obeisance on the occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi.

The temple trust’s president Rajendra Pawar said, “The voluntary decision of our brothers from the Muslim community has won our hearts. We thank them for such a thoughtful gesture.”

Panchayat samiti member and head of Jama Masjid committee Mehboob Chaudhary said, “The day is coinciding with the two festivals. Though the first day of Eid is most important, it is celebrated for three days. So we have decided to perform animal sacrificing rituals on the second and third day.”

He said that the Muslims on Sunday, after offering Eid prayers, will go back to the village and serve the devotees coming to the village for paying obeisance at the temple.
