Aurangabad: 4 masked men barge into Bamu VC's bungalow, axe sandalwood tree

AURANGABAD: In a daring robbery, a group of four unidentified people barged into the official residence of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University's (Bamu) vice chancellor and chopped a sandalwood tree in the early hours of Friday.

The official bungalow of VC is situated in the closely guarded university premises, which has a round the clock security.

Begumpura police station inspector Prashant Potdar citing complaint of the security guard Sanjay Pardeshi said that the masked suspects first threatened him with a sharp edged weapon and snatched his mobile phone. They then went to the second gate and snatched the other security guard's cell phone in the similar manner.

While two unidentified accused kept a check on the two security guards, their accomplices chopped a fully grown sandalwood tree before fleeing.

Based on the complaint lodged by security guard Sanjay Pardeshi, a case of robbery has been registered against unidentified suspects.

Inspector Potdar said that the incident took place at around 3.30am on Friday and the police was informed only after the suspects fled away from the spot.

Learning about the incident, senior police officers including deputy commissioner of police Ujwala Wankar rushed to the spot and much to her awe, found that there was not even a single CCTV covering entry and exit to the official residence of VC.
