Aunt held for killing newborn in West Bengal

HOWRAH: A newborn was killed at Tikiapara in Howrah on Friday morning, reportedly following a family dispute over property. Jemima Pervin, the child's aunt, has been arrested.

According to neighbours, Shama Pervin, a resident of Tikiapara, gave birth to the baby girl on Monday and the child was brought home on Thursday. On Friday morning, when Pervin's husband was out to sell vegetables, she woke up to find her daughter missing. Pervin and her husband later lodged a police complaint.

Cops started searching the area and went through CCTV footage. Later on Saturday morning, they retrieved the body of the baby from inside a water storage tank on the terrace of their house.

Police arrested the baby's aunt, Jemima Pervin. During interrogation, cops came to know that the woman allegedly threw the baby in the tank following a dispute over property.
