Supples Gallery presents paintings and sculptures that underscore the sustained living legacy of a leading figure in Myanmar's contemporary art scene during "Clash", which is running until July 12.
Held in collaboration with the Sea Art Gallery, this is a solo exhibition by Aung Myint who, working with a reduced yet highly charged palette, constructs surfaces where colour and gesture take precedence over narrative.
Recurrent figures and direct gazes appear throughout the paintings, creating a sense of continuity across the works while maintaining an underlying intensity. Rather than guiding the viewer towards a fixed interpretation, the compositions remain open, shaped by rhythm, repetition and the artist's intuitive process.
The presentation is further expanded by two bronze sculptures from the Mother & Child (2002-2008) series, translated from the artist's iconic one-line drawings. Their presence introduces a different material and spatial dimension to the exhibition, extending his exploration of form beyond the painted surface.
Aung Myint has worked across painting, installation and performance. His practice is known for its expressive, gesture-driven approach and independence from formal constraints.
The acclaimed Mother & Child series brought Aung Myint international recognition, alongside the Asean Art Award in 2002. His works have been exhibited widely across Asia, Europe and the US.
Supples Gallery is on Charoen Krung 43 and opens Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 6pm.
