Auf Wiedersehen, Pet star Tim Healy has blasted TV bosses for cutting non-PC scenes from repeats of the classic series.
He said it was a “shame all the gags have gone” in the show, being aired on UKTV.
“It’s political correctness gone mad,” he said. “The rhythm of the scenes is now stilted and awkward.”
The 1983 comedy-drama follows seven British mig-
rant construction workers.
It made household names out of Healy, 68, and co-stars Kevin Whately, Jimmy Nail, Timothy Spall, Gary Holton, Christopher Fairbank and Pat Roach.
The show, written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, quickly gained TV audiences topping 10 million.
Nail, who played abrasive bricklayer Oz, once said: “I didn’t understand at the time what the scale of the job was going to be.”
Holton, who played Wayne, died after a drug overdose in 1985, aged 33, during filming of a second series.
Ex-wrestler Roach, brickie Bomber, died of throat cancer, aged 67, in 2004 after the second “comeback” run.
Healy, who played Dennis, has said the show will “always be in my heart and soul”.
He is well again after being hit by a mystery bug that left him seriously ill while filming Benidorm in 2016.
Healy was married to Loose Women star Denise Welch from 1988 to 2012.
They have two sons together: The 1975 frontman Matt Healy and his younger brother, Louis.
Tim has been married to his second wife Joan Anderton since 2015.
The Mirror asked UKTV for details of what was cut from the repeats and why but awaits a response.
Meanwhile, Benidorm creator Derren Litten revealed earlier this year that there would not be a film of the popular comedy as he was retiring from television industry.
"When the BBC cancelled my latest show Scarborough I had a long think about what I wanted to do next," he revealed on social media.
"I genuinely thought Scarborough was some of my best work and if it's not what TV channels are looking for now maybe I should do something completely different.
