Audio: Vic Galloway on Edinburgh's local bands

Yesterday Vic Galloway told us about his plans to document the Scottish influence at this year's SXSW festival.

Today he talks about his favourite Edinburgh bands and discusses how the capital's music scene compares to Glasgow's.

As well as the likes of The Last Battle, Meursault, Withered Hand, eagleowl and Kid Canaveral he says he is into an 'incredible' 16-year-old dubstep producer from Edinburgh called Hangman.

He says Glasgow is at the 'epicentre' of Scotland's music scene, but reckons Edinburgh isn't far behind:

"Edinburgh gets a slagging in comparison to Glasgow, and obviously Glasgow's going to be much better for music because it's got a much bigger population. It's got a much better infrastructure of venues, music shops and every little part of music industry.

"But Edinburgh still has really cool stuff going on. I've always been based in Edinburgh, I like it as a city and living here and I want to see Edinburgh music do well. But I don't play stuff because of where it's from. I play it because it's good. I think a lot of people forget that there is a really good scene in Edinburgh.

"A band that I have been championing many years and they're about to bring out a new record is Found, based in Edinburgh. They've just signed to Chemikal Underground records, they were on Fence and they've also put out a record themselves. They blend electronics with songwriting and guitars. They're really inventive and they've got a record coming out and I really think the world's got to hear that record. They've got so many ideas. I think they're as good as anything that's coming out of London, the United States or Japan or anything. And it's right on our doorstep."

He also talks about his favourite bars in Leith!

To hear more from Vic Galloway, tune into his show on Mondays from 8pm on BBC Radio Scotland.
