Audience figures for Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham have huge drop

Liverpool claimed their sixth European Cup trophy against Tottenham in on June 1.

It was a wonderful occasion as Jordan Henderson lifted Ol’ Big Ears above his head in Madrid and one that will live long in the memory for Reds fans all over the world.

Scores of supporters travelled to the Spanish capital to watch the match - there were of course some who had tickets to the game but others made their way there to be part of the occasion and watch the contest with the thousands of others in the city.

For those who didn’t make the trip nor have access to the stadium the game was televised live on BT Sport.

Fans have had to pay to watch group stage and knockout phase fixtures on the channel over the past few years, although since 2016 the finals have been streamed for free on YouTube.

That was the case once again for the 2019 final but many viewers had problems trying to watch the match between Spurs and Liverpool.

Let's talk about 6 baby: Liverpool's incredible Champions League Final journey to Madrid

Although the Champions League is no longer free to watch as it previously was on ITV, football.london   report the viewership for the final was up 76% in the UK.

However, the viewing figures for the final worldwide were down 53% due to moving behind pay TV.

Brazil, who are the biggest consumers of the Champions League, saw a drop of over 90% in terms of viewership, with Germany, who are seen as one of the major footballing nations, also seeing figures plummet.

BT Sport will once again broadcast Europe’s top competition next season as they extended their their deal until 2021 back in March 2017.
