Audi stolen during lock snapping burglary in Bolton

Police have issued a warning to homeowners after a car was stolen from a house in Bolton.

According to police, burglars broke into a house in Links Road, Harwood, at 3.20am this morning (July 18).

A red Audi A3 car, with the registration YK17 GBP was stolen from the address.

Officers said that the suspects got into the house by snapping the lock on the door. Police have now issued advice on how homeowners can protect themselves from burglaries of this kind.

A GMP Bolton North spokesman wrote on social media: "Look to upgrade your euro cylinder locks to an anti snap cylinder with a 3 star rating under TS 007 and/or the Sold Secure Diamond Standard.

"Consider improving your door handles as well and replace them with a 2 star rating under TS 007.

"Use a reputable lock replacement company preferably with Master Locksmiths Association Accreditation.

"You may also be able to fit sash jammers to your doors, which have also proven to prevent burglaries. Check it won't invalidate any warranty on an existing door.

"You can fit additional locks to existing patio and French doors to increase security."
