Audi owner who rolled car banned for four years after admitting drink driving

A St Ann's resident wore only his underwear as he ran into the street after being woken by a bang to see smoke rising from his parked car.

As he sprinted into Ransom Road at 2.50am, he also saw an Audi on its roof and made sure its driver stayed clear of the debris, the city's magistrates' court heard.

Nearby was Audi owner Kyran Belony who asked: "My car, my car, what am I going to do without my car?"

Police officers arrived soon after the crash which took place on December 2.

Emma Wakefield, prosecuting, told the court: "He was looking extremely dazed and was struggling to focus on them.

"He kept saying 'my car' and told the officers that he was not drunk."

Solicitor Alias Yousef, who represented Belony, said he had been watching a boxing match on TV and had not planned to drive. Then he agreed to drive a friend home.

"He lost control and overturned it. He has now pleaded guilty to driving that car," added Mr Yousef.

A breath test showed 56 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, 21 over the legal limit. He was ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work and pay £300 prosecution costs.

The court heard a three-year driving ban was imposed on Belony for a similar offence a few weeks after the St Ann's incident.

District Judge Leo Pyle imposed a four-year driving ban on Belony, 31, of Oakley Road, Luton, who must also attend a course run by probation officers.

He told him: "This was just ridiculous and grossly irresponsible. Long term you should reap the benefits of these requirement.

"If you don't, the consequences are stark and you will lose your liberty," the judge added.
