Audi 'flies past' cars in dramatic police chase scenes

Dashcam footage shows an Audi S3 "flying" through Bootle this morning, in a bid to dodge police.

The car, which is suspected to have been stolen, was first spotted on East Lancs Road, Norris Green, at around 11.15am.

Travelling at speed, the car led police on a four-mile chase through Anfield and Kirkdale.

Police then chased the car towards Bootle, where it was collided with vehicles on Hawthorne Road, causing damage but no injuries.

The car was brought to a stop nearby and a man was detained at the junction of Menai Road and Watts Lane.

An eye-witness told the ECHO : "Saw him flying down the road. It's a wonder nobody was hurt."

Park Lane was closed in both directions for some time after what travel monitor INRIX described as a "police incident" near Bootle Cemetery.

Merseyside Police said the man will be assessed at hospital as a precaution before being taken to custody on suspicion of aggravated Unlawful Taking of a Motor Vehicle (UTMV); failing to stop and disqualified driving.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information is asked to contact Merseyside Police with reference 21000472949.
