Audi driver was over drink drive limit after partner was sent to prison

A woman was caught drink-driving in an Audi after having a drink with a friend following the news her partner had been sent to prison.

Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard Kyra Harkouk, 31, of Stoke Lane, Gedling, had a drink four hours earlier and drove.

Police on patrol saw her Audi without headlights in Plains Road, Mapperley, on October 29 last year.

Officers stopped the vehicle and smelt alcohol coming from the car.

Robert Carr, prosecuting, said: "She was asked if she had anything to drink and she said she had (a drink) around four hours previously".

A blood sample was taken which showed she had 207 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, over the limit of 80.

At court. she pleaded guilty to drink-driving.

Harkouk had no previous convictions and is a designer at a company that produces sprinklers when there is a fire in a building.

She went to a friend's after the sentencing of her partner at court to try to come to terms with it. She had a drink and drove four hours later.

She was fined £230, ordered to pay costs of £83 and a victim surcharge of £34. She was offered the drink drive rehabilitation course which would reduce her disqualification if completed.
