Merseyside Police sent patrols to the junction of Smithdown Road and Cranborne Road following reports of an incident involving an Audi and a Ford Mondeo private hire vehicle at 9.20pm.

Photographs from the scene show damage to both vehicles and debris scattered across the road.

The driver and a passenger in the private hire vehicle suffered cuts, with the driver also left with bruising and a leg injury, police said.

The driver of the Audi is believed to have left the scene before patrols arrived.

Smithdown Road was cordoned off between Webster Road and Asda while the scene was assessed then cleared.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police via Twitter (@MerPolCC) or by calling 101, quoting reference 857 of March 1.
