Audi driver fighting for life in hospital after car crashes into tree then catches fire

A man is fighting for life in hospital after the Audi he was driving crashed into a tree before catching fire.

An investigation is underway following the smash in Stockport in the early hours of Friday morning (May 22).

Police were called to the Hazel Grove area at around 2.20am.

They drove to the scene and found the vehicle on Dean Moor Road.

The driver was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

No arrests have been made.

The full statement from Greater Manchester Police said: "Police are appealing for information after a man was seriously injured following a collision in Stockport.

"At around 2.20am on Friday, May 22, police responding to an incident in the Hazel Grove area came across a road traffic collision on Dean Moor Road.



"Enquiries have established that the white Audi collided with a tree causing the vehicle to catch fire.

"A man was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition."

Sgt Matthew Picton, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was a serious collision which has left a man in a critical condition in hospital - our thoughts are with him as he receives treatment.

"An investigation is underway and I would ask anyone with information to contact us."
