Audi driver branded ‘irresponsible idiot’ over '100mph near miss'

An Audi driver was branded an ‘irresponsible idiot’ for a high speed incident on a busy main road.

In a shocking incident caught on camera, the driver of an Audi A3 Saloon can be seen travelling at a dangerous speed and coming dangerously close to other vehicles.

The incident was captured on dash cam by a concerned motorist on Monday, March 22, at 6pm on the East Lancs.

Weaving in and out of traffic, the Audi driver makes a dangerous attempt to squeeze in between two cars travelling in the left and right lanes of the dual carriageway.

The footage, shared with the ECHO by a driver who wishes to remain anonymous, shows just how close the irresponsible driver came to causing a crash.

The incident was reported to Merseyside Police by the owner of the dash cam.

Speaking to the ECHO, the driver and dash cam owner, who was on her way home from work said: “I was driving along the East Lancs and I was on the approach to Liverpool.

“It went so fast and I just saw something in my mirror coming up really quickly. The person is just an irresponsible idiot.

“The car swerved out of the way of me and then you can see the car on the left. It was an old man driving because we stopped at the lights afterwards and I managed to look over and he just looked at me and he was like ‘oh my god, what on earth has just happened?’

“It was so close, he was millimetres away from those cars, he didn’t break at all, you can see that on the footage. The driver in the other vehicle looked pretty shaken up.”

She added: “He was definitely driving over 100mph and it’s just what could’ve happened because it was so close.

“If they’d hit any of those cars there would’ve been fatalities and then there’s traffic behind, would they have been able to stop in time? It’s just shocking when you see driving like that.

“I’ve never seen anything like it, everyone has seen terrible driving but that was just unbelievable.”

The incident, along with the footage, was reported to Merseyside Police via their online portal. A reply back to the dash cam owner read: “I have viewed the footage and I would be shaken up too, what gives anyone the right to make such poor judgement and put the lives of others at risk.

“It’s such a pity that the vehicle registration number cannot be seen as I am sure our roads policing team would have liked to give the driver a few words of advice.

“Unfortunately without it would be impossible to be able to trace the driver.”

The driver and dash cam owner added: “As soon as I got home I sent them a message and I sent the footage to them as well and they said how horrendous it was.

“The main reason I sent it to them was just in case there was an accident or if they had been involved in anything else. It was just horrendous, these people just need to be careful.”

Roads Policing Sergeant Christine Walker said: "We are aware of the dangerous driving footage recorded on East Lancashire Road by a concerned member of the public yesterday (Monday 22 March).

"CCTV enquiries are ongoing and an investigation is now underway to identify the driver of the black Audi.

“Offenders who drive carelessly and dangerously on our roads not only risk their own safety, they risk the lives of other road users.

“Our Roads Policing Unit patrol the roads of Merseyside to protect people, and regularly help bring to justice those who threaten the safety of pedestrians, drivers and cyclists by driving recklessly and at speed.

“It's vital that we speak to anyone who has dash cam or CCTV footage from the East Lancashire Road area yesterday.

"Please do come forward with any information you have that could identify the driver responsible, and we'll do the rest."
