Audi 'child missing ride' message posted after toy car dumped with fly-tipping in Livingston

West Lothian Council has started to fight back against fly-tippers, publishing photos as it launches a manhunt for the dumpers.

One shows a pile of tyres and another an expensive ride-on child’s toy car that was dumped in the Bathgate Hills along with other household rubbish.

The photo was published online along with the question: “Do you know a child who is missing their ride?”

The council website goes on : “This distinctive white Audi kids vehicle was abandoned in the Bathgate Hills over the weekend, along with other illegal fly-tipping.”

Alongside images of the dumped tyres in Livingston   the council highlighted: “Council officers have recovered 52 tyres that were illegally fly-tipped in Kirkton Campus, Livingston last weekend.

“The majority of fly-tipping in West Lothian is commercial in nature. Tyres are commercial waste and are not accepted for recycling by the council, with the company or individuals responsible for paying to ensure they are recycled.”

The council’s website  encouraged “residents to play their part by ensuring any business they deal with disposes of their waste responsibly, and holds a valid Waste Carrier’s Licence.”

A council spokesman said: “There is no excuse for fly-tipping and we would urge anyone who has any information in those responsible to contact the council on  customer.service@westlothian.gov.uk  or 01506 280000.

“We would encourage everyone to dispose of any unwanted items responsibly, or face the possibility of a fixed penalty fine or court action.
