Auctions continue to generate strong results

HAMMER TIME: A Torrens Title two-bedroom villa at 24A Janet Street in Merewether that was marketed with a guide of $780,000 sold at auction on Saturday for $972,000.

It would appear not even miserable, rainy weather could slow down the current buoyancy of Newcastle's real estate market, according to Movable's Anthony Merlo.

He took a Torrens Title, freestanding two-bedroom villa at 24A Janet Street in Merewether to auction last Saturday with a guide of $780,000.

Four registered bidders battled it out before the property, which benefitted by Development Application approval for an upstairs addition, sold under the hammer for $972,000.

There were 14 registered bidders in Charlestown for a three-bedroom house at 102 Waratah Avenue that was marketed by Belle Property with a guide of $680,000 and sold at auction for $787,000.

A four-bedroom home at 14 Lockyer Street, Merewether marketed by Robinson Property sold for an undisclosed sum understood to be substantially over its $1.4 million guide.
