Auchinleck Talbot receiving league winners’ medals in Iceland carrier bag branded 'disappointing'

Iceland have branded themselves as Auchinleck Talbot's unofficial sponsor after they were handed their league winners medals in a carrier bag.

The junior side won the West Premiership last Wednesday, and they were presented their medals in a bag for life from the supermarket last night.

Talbot's rivals Hurlford United finished second behind the Beechwood Park side, and 'Ford gaffer Darren Henderson admits he would be "disappointed" if that was his side.

But he made light of the situation claiming that he would "bite your hand off" to be handed league winning medals in a bag.

He said: "It's sad, because Auchinleck have been so good this year. They have been relentless and lost just one league game this season.

"If that was us I'd be very disappointed, in my time at Hurlford it's the only thing we haven't won.

"To get it handed to you like that is sad, they deserve better than that.

"But I am sure they'll not be caring how they got their medals, by plastic bag or helicopter, that have still won the league!

"If you're telling me the only way I'll get the league medals next season is in a carrier bag I'll bite your hand off for it!"

Talbot striker Mark Shankland posted on Twitter about the incident.

He said: "We got handed our league winners medals in this Iceland bag last night. Couldn't make it up.

"Not even presented to us, just handed a bag of medals."

And Iceland replied to him saying: "You've bagged the league and we couldn't be happier to be your unofficial sponsor.

"And because the best things come in Iceland carrier bags, we'll send you something so you can have a proper celebration. DM us!"
