Auchinleck Talbot receive heroes' welcome in village after Junior Cup success

Auchinleck Talbot received a heroes' welcome last night as villagers turned out in force to welcome home their triumphant Junior Cup team.

Fans of all ages enjoyed special moments in the warm evening sunshine as the players and staff travelled along the main street before walking up Beechwood Avenue showing off the silverware.

Second-half goals from Craig McCracken and substitute Jamie Glasgow were enough to seal a 2-0 win over determined West of Scotland League rivals Yoker Athletic at Rugby Park yesterday.

Black and gold decorations were hung up in Mauchline with people in the streets waiting for the team bus to come through after the game.

Villagers in Ochiltree and Catrine also showed their support as the final approached with Auchinleck itself covered in chequered black-and-gold flags all the way from the Templeton roundabout on the A76.

Folk applauded and cheered as the squad and staff arrived at Beechwood Park where the party was already in full flow both inside and outside The Talbot Club.

Speaking after the game, Talbot keeper Andy Leishman said: "Words can't describe how good it is [in the village after winning the cup].

"Everybody says the Scottish Cup is dead. It's not. Look at the fans here. For this club, this is massive."
