Auchinleck 1 Hamilton 0: Accies fans right to be angry after Scottish Cup shock, says boss Stuart Taylor

Hamilton Accies boss Stuart Taylor says he understands why angry fans let rip at his side during their shock Scottish Cup exit to Auchinleck Talbot but stopped short of calling the result embarrassing.

The Championship side crashed out after Graham Wilson's second half strike sent the West of Scotland League Premier outfit into the fourth round.

Talbot play four tiers below Accies in the pyramid system and Accies fans fired some angry words towards the Accies bench during the second half, before waving players away at full-time as they went to thank the travelling support for making the journey to Ayrshire.

It's one of the worst results in the club's history and asked if it was an embarrassing day for Hamilton Accies Football Club, Taylor commented: "I said before the game this was probably the hardest tie in this round, coming down here with the hype around it.

"But there's absolutely no excuses whatsoever.

"In terms of the team we put out, it was strong enough to go and win the game, just simply the performance wasn't good enough.

"We did all our homework before the game but when you cross that white line it's 11 lads playing 11 lads."

And when quizzed on the reaction from fans and if understood where they were coming from, he added: "Absolutely. I'm not happy with the result.

"We've lost the game for certain reasons and it's not acceptable.

"It's understandable. They are angry, they are frustrated - I'm exactly the same.

"I think one thing we try to do is go over to supporters in every game - win, lose or draw - and we thank them for turning up and supporting us.

"That's something I always look to do.

"I'm angry, disappointed, all those emotions but what I've got to do is pick those players up.

"It was nowhere near good enough.

"We've had a huge bulk of possession but we never broke them down enough.

"First half we didn't stick to how we wanted to play. We had a chat about that at half-time and had a better shape about us in the second half.

"We started the second half better in terms of getting into certain areas of the pitch.

"We started getting balls into the box and shots on goal, but once they score it just becomes frantic.

"They defend that bit narrower and harder - as they should - but we've got to find a bit more quality to break them down.

"We had opportunities in the first half to go and implement our work in the game.

"We had two early corners in the game and we couldn't keep them in the pitch. We had a one-on-one and we didn't hit the target.

"So we had opportunities to put our stamp on the game and we didn't do that. The longer that goes on the harder they become and the more open they become.

"But to go to deal with a long throw into the box and drop the runner - that's not acceptable. Not at the level we are trying to get to."
