Auchinleck 4 Glenafton 0: Cup holders kick-off trophy defence in perfect style

Auchinleck Talbot kicked off their Sectional Cup defence in perfect style with a comfortable win over Glenafton.

The Beechwood Park side put the Glens to the sword, as two Gordon Pope penalties sent them on their way.

Then goals from substitutes Hamish McKinlay and Mark Shankland sealed the deal for last season's Treble winners.

Glenafton had a penalty shout in the sixth minute when Mick McCann was pushed in the area, but whistler Calum Scott waved play on.

Talbot took the lead in the 18th minute with a penalty of their own after Stephen Wilson was brought down in the area.

Gordon Pope made no mistake as he fired it into the corner.

Glenafton were forced into a first-half chance just after the half-hour mark, Dan Orsi came on for an injured Alan Cairns.

Jamie Glasgow had a wonderful chance to double Talbot’s lead in the 38th minute, but goalkeeper Brian McGarrity got down well to save the one-on-one.

In the 54th minute Talbot doubled their lead, again from the spot, as Pope grabbed a brace.

Glens had a good chance in the 68th minute when the ball fell to Ally Park, but his shot was well saved by Andy Leishman.

And after 75 minutes it was three after a skilful run by Mark Shankland led to an easy tap in for Hamish McKinlay.

McKinlay had a great chance for his double five minutes later when he was through one-on-one, but he fluffed a chip straight into the hands of McGarrity.

Shankland then bagged one for himself with the last kick of the ball with a tidy curling effort.
