Auchencairn "miracle" baby boy enjoys first Christmas at home

A “miracle” baby boy enjoyed his first Christmas at home on Saturday.

Kayleigh and Gerri McDougall from Auchencairn tried for three years to have children before Gerri fell pregnant with Daniel earlier this year.

And the tot clearly didn’t want his parents to have to wait any longer as he arrived four weeks early.

Kayleigh said: “Gerri was carrying a lot of excess fluid so there were regular check ups. It all happened last minute and in the end she had an emergency C-section.

“He arrived on September 20 and weighed 6lbs 6oz. He was in neonatal for 11 days.

“We were excited when we got him home – but it was scary as well! He’s doing absolutely fine now, he’s thriving.”

Kayleigh, who is 33 and a private carer, and Gerri, who is 36 and a dairy manager, married in 2018 and soon tried to have children, however it wasn’t easy.

Kayleigh said: “We went down the NHS IVF route but by the time they did all the tests we needed, 12 months had passed. They wanted us to go through the whole process again – and then Covid hit. We actually did it again with a private donor.

“We’d said we were going to end up adopting but we did our last try in January and that’s when Gerri fell pregnant so he’s a bit of a miracle.

“We took him to Gerri’s mum’s for Christmas as she was doing the cooking!”
