Auchencairn Initiative handed £1,000 boost to continue helping community during coronavirus pandemic

A community group has received a £1,000 funding boost so it can continue helping people during the coronavirus pandemic.

Auchencairn Initiative was handed the cash from Foundation Scotland’s Response, Recovery and Resilience fund.

The money will be used to buy a dishwasher to ensure it complies with hygiene standards while producing bread, cakes and takeaway meals every weekday.

Friday evenings are proving particular favourites with more than 30 curries – produced on the premise – sold in the village to boost morale.

Other beneficiaries in the region include the Food Train, which received £1,000 to support its grocery shopping service.

Demand has surged during the pandemic and the charity is able to support older people access regular
grocery shopping thanks to the fantastic support of volunteers.

Independent Living Support received £790 to administer energy top-ups for clients who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

And Dumfries and Galloway Carers were given £990 to buy supermarket vouchers to give to 33 carers who were most in need due to their lives being greatly impacted by the pandemic.
