Why Kent State Will Win
Just how much will Auburn sleepwalk through this with the SEC opener at Texas A&M coming up next week? Even if it does try, will it get the steady quarterback play needed to make this a laugher?
Bo Nix had a magical final few minutes in the win over Oregon, and he’s been way too wobbly the rest of the time, including last week against Tulane. That’s why there’s a date against Kent State on the slate – this is the tune-up to get ready for SEC life – but he’s still playing like a true freshman, hitting 47% of his throws with three touchdowns and two picks.
The Golden Flash defensive front might not be a killer, but it’s been fantastic so far at getting into the backfield, crushing Arizona State for five sacks. The Auburn offensive line has only allowed one sack in two games, but a little pressure could be enough to keep the Tiger offense in check.
Why Auburn Will Win
There’s an outside shot that Kent State won’t keep its offense on the field for more than a few moments. The FlashFast attack moves at a brisk pace, but that’s a huge problem when the O isn’t converting on third downs.
Kent State is keeping the ball for 23 minutes a game.
The Golden Flash ground game is averaging just 3.5 yards per carry, getting stuffed way too often by Arizona State and getting little going in the win over Kennesaw State. The Tiger defensive front isn’t going to allow a thing – it’s not going to take too many points for AU to put this away.

What’s Going To Happen
Auburn’s offense has struggled a bit too much over the first two games, and it’s not going to break out this week. The Kent State defense isn’t going to be a rock, but it’s going to do just enough to keep the Tigers from blowing up. There won’t be any real drama – Auburn will score early and Kent State might not score – but it’s going to be a third straight uneven performance by Nix and the O.
