Aubameyang up front and a surprise in midfield - The team Arsenal fans want to see vs Man City

The Arsenal fans have spoken.

Football is returning on Wednesday night, with the Gunners travelling to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City.

It will be their first action for more than three months, after the coronavirus pandemic called a halt to all football in this country at the beginning of March.

Arsenal could not have been handed a tougher test on their first game back - the Premier League champions away from home, but at least, with no fans in the stadium, there will not be a partizan crowd to contend with at the Etihad.

With no previous form to go on, Mikel Arteta will only be going on what he has seen in training since the players have been back and the friendly matches they have played - against Charlton and Brentford.

Arteta believes Arsenal can reach ‘right agreement’ with Aubameyang

It will be interesting to see what the Spanish head coach does with his first team selection as he has a number of big decisions to make all across the park.

We asked our reporters to name their teams for the match in Manchester, and now the Arsenal supporters have had their say too.

We gave you the opportunity to pick your XI for the clash at Eastlands and you have spoken, with one rather surprising choice.

Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney get the nod at full-back, with David Luiz and Pablo Mari in the heart of the defence, perhaps an expected back line.

And in the front three the fans have chosen Nicolas Pape, Bukayo Saka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - perhaps a slight surprise given Arteta's reluctance to play the Gabonese through the middle.

It is in midfield where there is a big surprise. Alongside Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos, the fans have chosen Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

No room for Mesut Ozil or Matteo Guendouzi. Interesting.
