Aubameyang’s brother hits out at Mikel Arteta Arsenal appointment

The brother of Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has criticised the club over the seemingly-imminent appointment of Mikel Arteta as manager.

Standard Sport understands that the former Gunners club captain will be confirmed as Unai Emery’s replacement in the coming days, possibly even in time to take charge of this weekend’s Premier League trip to Everton.

Aubameyang has been a rare shining light in a difficult season for Arsenal, and is their top scorer, having found the net 13 times in all competitions.

His brother, Willy, was himself a professional footballer, having started his career at AC Milan and gone on to represent the Gabonese national team.

Replying to a post on Instagram by the controversial AFTV account, which cited reports that Arteta was on the brink of taking the job, Willy voiced his disapproval, comparing the former Everton star to Arsenal’s current interim head coach Freddie Ljungberg.

“Ljungberg Arteta is the same thing,” he wrote. “No experience.”

The Gunners job would be Arteta’s first as a manager, with his coaching experience thus far coming as an assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
