Neither the Washington Football Team nor the Baltimore Ravens have been allowed to have any fans at football games so far this season, but that could be changing sometime in the near future.
According to Governor Larry Hogan, who recently spoke to NBC Sports Washington, there is a desire to safely get fans to return to games in Maryland, allowing them to watch the events live and in person.
“I’m in favor of safely trying to get some fans back in the stands,” Hogan told JP Finlay on Thursday. “Our health department is working very closely on that to try to work with the teams.”
According to Gov. Hogan, both Washington and the Ravens have been in talks with local government officials, working to figure out a way in which fans can safely return to stadiums this season without putting anyone at risk for contracting the COVID-19 virus.
According to an NPR study, the state of Maryland holds a very low infection rate for COVID-19, with just 1-9 daily new cases per 100,000 people. It’s because of encouraging statistics like this that could allow both Washington and Baltimore to star allowing fans back in the stands.
When the two teams meet in FedEx Field on Sunday, there will be no fans int he stadium, but don’t be surprised to see those ticket booths start to open back up somewhere down the road this season.
