Anti-poverty campaigners will gather at rallies in more than 100 countries on Thursday to shine a light on the sustainable development goals.
Light the Way events will take place as night falls across the globe. The gatherings will begin in Fiji and end in the US, where there will be a rally outside the UN headquarters in New York called Under One Sky. The following day, global leaders will formally adopt the 17 goals, which aim to tackle issues including poverty, inequality and climate change.
The campaign group action/2015, a coalition of NGOs and activists, organised the events with its 2,000 member organisations. Candlelit vigils will be hosted in cities including Sydney, Berlin, Freetown and São Paulo.
In Delhi, thousands of people will gather at the Sher Mandal monument to see light projections of the global goals, while people will form a human chain around the Constitution Hill precinct in Johannesburg. In London, crowds will gather at the Millennium Bridge with candles and lanterns before hearing from Naomie Harris, Bianca Jagger and other activists.
Some groups have already held events and shared photos on Twitter.
