Attempted robbery on Kilmarnock street as brazen woman tries to steal handbag

Detectives are appealing for information after an attempted robbery took place on a Kilmarnock street this morning.

A woman was making her way along Knockinlaw Road, near to the junction with Kilmaurs Road in Kilmarnock at around 8.50am when she was confronted by a woman walking on the footpath in the opposite direction.

As the two began to pass each other, the victim felt her bag being violently pulled from her grasp, however, managed to keep a hold of it whist spinning round. The woman suspect attempting to steal the bag then made off towards Kilmaurs Road after failing in her attempt.

Detective Constable Keith Hyndes at Kilmarnock CID said: “The woman we want to trace in relation to this attempted robbery is described as being a white female, in her mid 20s, with dark brown shoulder length hair.

"She was wearing a navy blue coloured jacket and grey coloured jogging bottoms. I would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the Knockinlaw Road area around 8.50am today if they saw or heard anything suspicious.

"The victim in this attack was not injured in this incident.

"I would also ask anyone who may have been driving along Knockinlaw Road around this time in a vehicle fitted with a dash-cam to examine their device to see if they might have captured anything which might assist us in this investigation.

"Callers should use the 101 number to contact police and should quote the reference number 0827 22 June, 2020. Anyone wishing to pass on information while remaining anonymous can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
