Attempted murder suspect arrested in dramatic M6 motorway capture

A man suspected of attempted murder was captured during a dramatic arrest on the M6 motorway.

Armed police teams from Cheshire , North Wales and the North West Motorway Police, were helped by a police helicopter to trap the man who was wanted in connection with a violent stabbing in Gateacre last month.

On August 24, emergency services was called to Grange Road in Gateacre Village to reports that a 39-year-old man had been stabbed multiple times close to the Black Bull pub.

The victim was found by armed response officers. He was treated for several stab wounds including to his thighs, arm and abdomen.

At the same time, people in the area reported hearing a number of gunshots before Merseyside Police confirmed the firearms discharge.

Officers later confirmed that the victim had been released from hospital and was recovering well.

Today they arrested a man from Liverpool on suspicion of attempted murder.

NPAS Hawarden tweeted a birds eye view picture of the moment officers surrounded a dark coloured, BMW style, car on the M6 motorway near Crewe.

North West Motorway Police initially stated that the suspected was wanted on suspicion of murder in Merseyside but local officers later clarified that this was not the case.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the ECHO : "We can confirm a man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing in Grange Road, Gateacre on Saturday 24 August.

"A 39-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on the M6 today, Monday, 23 September."
