Attempted murder probe launched after cyclist, 18, mown down by 4x4

A cyclist suffered two broken legs after being deliberately mown down by 4x4 vehicle. The incident in Salford is being treated as attempted murder by detectives.

Police believe the rider was targeted by the driver of a Ford EcoSport whichwas on cloned number plates. They do not believe it was a road-rage dispute.

The incident happened at 4.30pm on Gore Avenue on Monday January 30 as the cyclist rode towards Weaste Lane. The 18-year-old cyclist suffered serious injuries after the vehicle ran over him.

The vehicle involved was abandoned on Cranbrook Road, Winton, on the evening of Tuesday, January 31. The registration plate, which was cloned on the vehicle, was FX17 VOM. The true keeper of these number plates have no connection to this investigation.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the areas at the time or may have seen the white Ford EcoSport elsewhere to please come forward.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam and doorbell footage that may have picked up the white Ford EcoSport on the road just before, during or after the incident.
