Attempted murder probe after car mows down three people on pavement near Glasgow pub

An attempted murder investigation is underway after three revellers were hit by a car on a pavement after a night out.

Two men, aged 25 and 28, and a woman, aged 63, were knocked down after leaving the Pig ‘n’ Whistle pub in the Gorbals area of Glasgow at around midnight on Friday.

They left the haunt on McNeil Street before being hit by the motor, that mowed onto to the pavement on OId Rutherglen Road a short time after.

Police say they were called to a 'disturbance' in the pub earlier that night but it is not yet known if it's linked to the incident on Old Rutherglen Road.

All three were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary to be treated for their injuries.

The 25 year-old man was released after treatment.

The 28 year-old man and 63 year-old women remain in hospital where medical staff describe their condition as stable.  

Officers are trying to find a description of the car involved.

Detective Sergeant Keith Runcie said: “The car had driven up onto the pavement and therefore we are treating this incident as attempted murder.

“Officers had been called to a disturbance at the pub prior to the incident taking place and therefore we are trying to establish whether both incidents are linked.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the Pig ‘n’ Whistle pub on McNeil Street last night, or who witnessed the incident take place on Old Rutherglen Road to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“You may be able to help us with our enquiry.”
